Khushi Kapoor’s white dress and pearl earring combo is a cocktail party favourite

Although these past few months have been all about maximalism, there’s an increasing number of people opting for elevated minimalism, usually as a sort of reprieve from the tsunami of y2k and Barbiecore. Khushi Kapoor is one of those people: her style, especially in the past few months, has featured simple yet elevated looks. Her recent outfit, a white maxi dress, just proved her status as a Gen Z minimalist icon.

Kapoor recently shared a series of photographs on her instagram wearing a maxi dress from Lebanese based boutique, Dalida Ayach. The strapless dress was white with a reversed neckline and a cinched in waist mimicking a corset top. Keeping in line with the inherent minimalism of the white, Kapoor styled the dress with white sandals and Gucci pearl drop earrings, as she kept her hair in an elegant bun with bright, dewy makeup.

In 2023, it seems to be returning as a casual, non-wedding mainstay. While it may seem like the white dress’ resurgence can be credited to online aesthetics like ‘quiet luxury’ and ‘coastal grandmother’, the build up over the past year in high fashion spaces signals otherwise. From Coperni’s spray painted spectacle featuring Bella Hadid to the Karl Lagerfeld-themed Met Gala, the return of the white dress was inevitable, whether Sofia Richie’s wedding went viral or not. But more than any trends or runways or red carpets, the white dress’ return seemed inevitable because of its versatility: styling can make it go from a casual beach look to something channeling old-world elegance. Khushi Kapoor’s styling, with its pearl earrings and low heels, seems to be leaning towards the latter: and she pulls it off effortlessly.
